Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Myrtle Beach Safari owner and Tiger King personality, Doc Antle, has been charged with federal money laundering crimes. The criminal complaint against Antle indicates that he and an associate laundered over a half-million dollars in an apparent illegal immigrant smuggling operation. The FBI used a "reverse money laundering" maneuver in order to nab the pair. A bond hearing will happen on Thursday. Antle and his associate each face up to 20 years in prison if found guilty. - Myrtle Beach Pelicans Single-A pitcher, Luis Devers, was named minor league pitcher of the month for May by the Chicago Cubs organization. Devers finished the month with 15 straight scoreless innings in his last three starts. (WBTW)
- Thomas Watts, 57, of Myrtle Beach was identified by Horry County Deputy Coroner, Darris Fowler, as the pedestrian hit and killed just before midnight Sunday night on Kings Road near Queens Road. SC Highway Patrol says a person driving a 2002 GMC Yukon hit Watts, who was in the road. There are no additional details available at this time. (wpde.com)
- The 2nd annual Myrtle Beach Pride picnic was a "phenomenal" success according to organizers of Sunday's event at Tidal Creek Brewhouse. Some participants expressed surprise at the number of people who showed up for the celebration, from all throughout the community as well as others who wanted to lend support. Organizers started planning Pride events in 2020, but had to put celebrations on hold due to the pandemic. Last year was the group's first picnic, and they are very happy to see the huge turnout in year two. (WBTW)
- Gasoline prices on the Grand Strand went up another 26 cents according to the latest report from GasBuddy. Prices are $1.68 higher than a year ago on this date. The Myrtle Beach area average price is $4.46 per gallon — 49.5 cents higher than a month ago. At least nine states are paying over $5 per gallon, according to the report. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
