Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- After spending most of June in jail, Doc Antle was granted bond on Monday, and reportedly was released from jail on Tuesday. Several conditions apply to the $250,000 secured bond, including having Antle's son act as a third-party custodian, location monitoring and restricting Antle's movements to stay within the boundaries of Myrtle Beach Safari Park. (WMBF)
- A person who was threatening suicide on the beach near Beach Place on Monday evening shot themselves, and were brought to the hospital for treatment. There is no update on their condition at this time. Police stepped up their presence on the scene for a while after the incident. (wpde.com) (WMBF) (Myrtle Beach Police Department via Facebook)
- Myrtle Beach Police responded to a call at 1229 Shine restaurant in Market Common where a man was showing off a large knife and talked about knowing people with assault rifles. The man reportedly said he would be back later that night, and made some comments about killing people. He then lingered outside the establishment and was "acting strangely." Police spoke to the man, but it is not clear if he was taken into custody. (ABC NEWS 4)
- A Myrtle Beach teenager was killed in a single-vehicle crash last weekend in Brunswick County, North Carolina along Highway 17. NC Highway Patrol says the car, driven by a 16-year-old, was traveling at a very high speed, left the road, hit an embankment, became airborne and rolled end-over-end several times. The driver and one passenger were able to get out of the vehicle. Two other passengers were brought to Grand Strand Medical Center with severe injuries. The female teen, who has not been identified, was thrown from the vehicle and died on the scene. Charges are pending against the driver. (WMBF)
- We've all geared up for the North Myrtle Beach plastic bag ban that is scheduled to begin on July 1, but now it's unclear if it will take effect on Friday after all. City leaders are planning to meet about the topic today to discuss changing the language in the ordinance. A "reusable" plastic bag that is a certain thickness may be acceptable for merchants to use. Stay tuned! (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
