Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Georgetown County coroner Chase Ridgeway has announced that the cause and manner of Brittanee Drexel's death will be listed as "undetermined" now that forensic examinations of the teen's remains have been completed. Previously, prosecutors said Drexel had died from strangulation. Experts were unable to positively confirm that as the cause of death. (WBTW)
  2. The former Fountainbleau Inn on Flagg Street will be demolished, starting this morning. The property is the second hotel of several properties that will be destroyed to make way for the city's Oceanfront Redevelopment Project. The city purchased ten properties that were considered nuisances in that section of the city. The Sea Nymph motel was taken down in April. (WMBF)
  3. Related to that same project is the improvement of the Arts & Innovation District where a new mural was unveiled Tuesday morning. The mural was painted on the side of a building in Nance Plaza. It depicts Grand Strand-themed images. Leadership Grand Strand Class 42 painted the mural as part of a community service project sponsored by Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. (wpde.com)
  4. As predicted, the 2022 Atlantic Beach BikeFest was a huge success over the Memorial Day weekend. Thousands of visitors packed the popular festival that began back in 1980. It was a real boost for local businesses that hadn't seen much activity in the last couple of years. Bikers said they felt very safe and the police did a good job. Some negative feedback included problems with parking and one-way traffic patterns. (WBTW)
  5. More details are emerging in the North Myrtle Beach plane crash that happened over the holiday weekend. According to the FAA, the pilot was returning to the airport to drop off an advertising banner when the crash occurred. The FAA says the plane had "climbed out, then nosed over backwards into the ground." The report states that the aircraft was registered to Barnstormers Aerial Advertising, LLC since 2013. About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
