🌱 Early Voting Soon + Celebrating Brittanee + Myrtle Beach Nostalgia

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Myrtle Beach.

(Patch Media)

Hello, neighbors. It's Sunday, October 23, 2022 in Myrtle Beach and I'm back in your inbox to get you caught up on the most important things happening in town, including news about...

  • Early voting starts tomorrow.
  • Celebrating the life of Brittanee Drexel.
  • Myrtle Beach nostalgia.

But first, let's look at Sunday's weather:

Mostly sunny and pleasant. High: 73 Low: 56.

📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Myrtle Beach who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales.

I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Myrtle Beach Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now.

Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Early voting for the General Election starts tomorrow in South Carolina. Registered voters do not need to wait until November 8 to vote. Starting Monday, October 24, registered voters can go to designated early voting sites and cast their votes. According to Horry County Voter Registration Director Sandy Martin, Horry County voters can cast their ballot at any of the seven early voting locations. It does not matter if the location is in your neighborhood. Voters will need a photo ID. Polls are not open on Sundays. The final day of early voting is November 5. Early voting locations are listed in the articles here: (wpde.com) (WBTW) (WMBF)
  2. One person was injured in a two-alarm house fire in Little River. The fire happened Friday night just after 5 p.m. on Glenridge Drive. The fire was brought under control but one person was brought to the hospital and four people were displaced. They have been offered assistance by the American Red Cross of South Carolina. The cause of the fire is not yet determined. (WMBF)
  3. Journey Church at Inlet Square Mall in Murrells Inlet was the site of a celebration of life service honoring Brittanee Drexel on Friday. Family and friends shared memories of the 17-year-old and expressed thanks to the Grand Strand community for supporting them for 13 years. Brittanee would have turned 30 years old on October 7. (wpde.com)
  4. North Myrtle Beach leaders discussed adding golf cart parking spaces to a Crescent Beach access parking lot this week, recognizing the need for more golf cart parking. The City Council had its first reading concerning 18th Avenue's beach access number 8 in that section of the city. If approved, access 8 will be moved 66 feet south of its current location and new amenities will be added. The new amenities will consist of more golf cart parking spaces, restrooms and showers. Beach access 8 is currently a private, empty parking lot between two abandoned buildings, with a port-a-potty nearby. A second hearing on the topic will happen in November. (WMBF)
  5. News13 got a little nostalgic over the weekend with articles commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Seagate Village neighborhood in Myrtle Beach and the announcement that Boardwalk Coffee House would be closing after 12 years. Seagate Village was originally built as Woodside Park and served as housing for married and noncommissioned officers stationed at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base. When the base closed in 1993, the neighborhood's homes were renovated and the area was renamed Seagate Village. Governor McMaster proclaimed Saturday, October 22 as Seagate Village Day. Residents celebrated with a block party on Saturday. (WBTW) The owners of Boardwalk Coffee House, Rick and DeAnn Sarver, have decided to retire after 12 years in business. Their lease is ending on the converted garage that they stumbled upon while in town on vacation in 2010 and they're ready to enjoy some well-deserved time off. The Sarvers are hosting a farewell party at the Coffee House October 30 starting at 3 p.m. (WBTW)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

Today's photo came in from reader Mike Langlais who captured red-orange skies over Cherry Grove Beach just before the weekly drum circle at sunset a day or so before Hurricane Ian. Thanks, for the pic, Mike — one of these days I'll have to join the drum circle group!

Hold onto those Myrtle Beach photos, folks! We are working on a backlog of photos submitted recently. Thank you so much for your patience.

  • Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon: Taking a look back at last week's Doggie Dash. Raising funds for the Grand Strand Humane Society. (Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon via Instagram)

Now you're in the loop and ready to head out the door on this Sunday! I'll see you bright 'n' early tomorrow for your Monday installment of the Myrtle Beach Daily.

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
