Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- It's Election Day and Horry County officials are expecting it to be a very busy turnout at the county's polling places. South Carolina had two weeks of early voting which ended Saturday. So, today is the day! If you haven't voted, this is your last chance for the 2022 midterms. If you need voting info check out the scvotes.gov website. (WBTW) (WMBF)
- Most schools are closed today for Election Day which also happens to be National STEM Day. So many kids will be out of school and WonderWorks wants families to come to the venue to celebrate STEM Day. The venue will have interactive exhibits and science labs all day. (wpde.com)
- A female inmate at Long Detention Center was found dead on Friday night in her cell at the facility. Emergency personnel did administer life-saving measures, but Samantha Benson was pronounced dead shortly after EMS arrived on scene. A preliminary internal investigation by the prison determined that no foul play was involved, but the Horry County Coroner's Office has an autopsy scheduled. SC Law Enforcement Division is investigating. (wpde.com) (WMBF)
- Subtropical Storm Nicole is heading this way. Later in the week, Nicole will bring high winds and heavy rain. Winds will start increasing today and then become more gusty Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. There could be gusts up to 40 mph along the immediate coast. Be prepared for possible power failures. Rain should be heaviest on Thursday and Friday and there is expected to be some coastal flooding and beach erosion. (WMBF)
- Two Powerball players on the Grand Strand had some big winnings on Saturday. One local player won $150,000 on a ticket sold in Murrells Inlet at the Refuel gas station. Another local player won $50,000 on a ticket sold at Food Lion on Highway 9 in Little River. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
