🌱 Ex-Gov. Haley Promotes Book In Myrtle Beach + Grand Strand Events

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Myrtle Beach.

(Patch Media)

Hi all. It's me, Kathy Mandell, your host of the Myrtle Beach Daily — back in your inbox with everything you need to know about what's happening in our community on this Monday, October 10, 2022. Including news on...

  • Ex-governor Nikki Haley promoted her new book in Myrtle Beach over the weekend.
  • Myrtle Beach city officials are asking property owners to bring clean sand to the beach.
  • A run-down of the numerous Grand Strand events coming up next weekend.

Let's take a quick look at Monday's weather:

Partial sunshine. High: 71 Low: 62.

Here are the top three stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley stopped in Myrtle Beach during her book tour and carefully dodged a question about a possible presidential run in 2024. About 100 people came to the event Sunday promoting Haley's book, "If You Want Something Done: Leadership Lessons From Bold Women." We will have to "wait and see" if anything comes of that presidential run. (wpde.com)
  2. Myrtle Beach property owners are being asked to return 'clean sand' to the beach to help with dune repairs. City officials are asking owners to bring sand to their nearest beach access so that Public Works staffers can return clean sand to the beach. Clean sand is free of debris, glass, or trash. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for re-nourishing beaches when sand is lost from erosion. The absence of protective dunes means infrastructure near the beach is vulnerable. (wpde.com)
  3. The Grand Strand event calendar is chock-full again. Since I'll be on vacation until next week, I wanted to make sure my readers are aware of the most important events coming up. The Myrtle Beach Greek Festival is happening October 13 through 16 at St. John The Baptist Greek Orthodox Church. Myrtle Beach Jazz Festival kicks off on Friday, October 14 and runs all weekend on historic Carver Street at Charlie's Place. If you like Bully Breed dogs, the American Bully Federation Dog Show is happening at Myrtle Beach Convention Center October 15. Loris Bog-Off Festival is October 15 in downtown Loris. The healing sounds of Native American Flute music will be showcased at Horry County Museum on October 15 at 1 p.m. The fabulous Oak Ridge Boys are back at the Alabama Theatre October 15 at 7 p.m. The Myrtle Beach Mini Marathon, a 5K and a doggie dash is happening October 15 and 16 starting at 8th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach. (Run Myrtle Beach) The Grand Strand Buddy Walk for Down Syndrome Awareness Month is Sunday, October 16 in Market Common. On the South Strand, the Georgetown Wooden Boat Show is happening October 15 and 16 on the waterfront in Georgetown. In case I overlooked anything, be sure to check out Visit Myrtle Beach's event calendar. For live music MyrtleLive.com is the place to go.

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

This one made me chuckle! Reader Judy Banas sent in this great pic. Judy says she gets frequent visits from this beautiful heron. I love how its long legs are perfectly straight and it seems ultra-focused. Thanks for the fun photo, Judy!

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
