Happy Saturday, Myrtle Beach! Here's everything you need to know to start today off on an informed note. It's going to be a very busy 3-day weekend on the Grand Strand — be careful driving and bring along some patience.

First, Saturday's weather:

Scattered showers and thunderstorms. High: 75 Low: 67.

Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Beer, live music, dogs, & food: Myrtle Beach Oktoberfest is just one of several events happening this weekend at Market Common. My favorite event, Pooch-A-Mania, is on Sunday, October 10th from 11 am - 5 pm at Market Common's Grand Park. Valor Memorial Gardens will host Art In The Park at Market Common on Saturday and Sunday. North of the city is Little River ShrimpFest on the waterfront, all weekend. Heading to the South Strand, you've got Grand Strand Witches Night, and Wahoo's Country Music Jam, on the Marshwalk. The fun continues through October and November, too. Check out these links for info. (wpde.com) (MyHorryNews.com)
  2. Spirit Airlines has announced a new daily non-stop flight route from Myrtle Beach to New Hampshire — my old neck of the woods! Manchester, New Hampshire's regional airport is an alternative to Boston's Logan Airport for many New Englanders. Demand for travel from New England to the Grand Strand has increased, and the new route will be a great offering for air travelers to Myrtle Beach. The new route will start in April of 2022. (WMBF)
  3. Town officials in Pawleys Island are proposing creek and inlet dredging due to sand build-up in the popular fishing area. Mayor Brian Henry says the last time the creeks and inlets were dredged was in 2007. Dredging allows fresh water to flow in and wash out the creek beds. The main problem is navigational issues for boaters and kayakers, and experts say the ecosystem and wildlife are not in any danger. The issue will be discussed at Monday's town council meeting. (WMBF)
  4. The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers have done it again! Their 52-20 win over Arkansas State Thursday night made them the first Football Bowl Subdivision team eligible to participate in this season's bowl games. The team won eleven straight games in the Sun Belt Conference, and have set several records in the process. (WBTW)

  • All week we've been posting about the Myrtle Beach mayoral race, set to be decided by voters on November 2nd. Here's a profile of candidate C.D. Rozsa. The 15-year Myrtle Beach resident will focus on crime, drug trafficking and sex trafficking with an aim to make the city more family-friendly. (WBTW)

  • Take a Kid Fishing Day is October 16th. The SC Department of Natural Resources will teach kids how to fish at five piers throughout Horry County. From Cherry Grove down to Garden City, there's a place for your child to learn how to fish all along the Grand Strand. (wpde.com)
  • The Grand Strand Humane Society is really feeling the pinch of a full house of dogs and cats surrendered to their shelter, along with having to move their facility. Myrtle Beach residents can now donate to the humane society through their monthly water bill. (WMBF)
  • It's Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Test your safety knowledge with this downloadable guide from SC Department of Consumer Affairs. (MyrtleBeachAreaChamber.com)
  • The latest data from the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller Index shows real estate prices in the Myrtle Beach area continue to break records, while inventory remains low due to buyer demand and rapid population growth. (Patch)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
