Here are the top 4 stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Two people were killed and a third person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries from a head-on collision in Longs on Christmas morning. The crash involved two Nissan Altimas, and it was reported that none of the passengers were wearing seatbelts in either of the vehicles. The wreck occurred near Monterrey Drive and Pine Needle Drive. One car crossed the center line and hit the other, then one of the vehicles also caught fire. (WBTW)
  2. Volunteers with St. John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church and the Sonshine Recovery Ministries helped serve meals to people in need on Christmas Day. The joyous occasion was helped along by fabulous weather. The church has been holding a Christmas Community Dinner for 33 years, and the ministries just returned form helping with tornado recovery efforts in Kentucky. (wpde.com)
  3. The community at Surfside Beach's Tabernacle Church also used their daily food bank to help people, on Christmas Eve. The church has operated a weekday food bank for 18 years, and uses the time before the holidays to prepare a celebration for people in need. The event included a pancake station, arts and crafts, and photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus. (WMBF)
  4. Some self-described snowbirds got a Christmas thrill near Beach Cove Resort in North Myrtle Beach on the holiday — a whale having a whale of a time in the waters not too far from shore. The glimpse of the whale, who appeared to be enjoying itself, was captured on video. (WBTW)

Today in Myrtle Beach:

  • The Yale Brothers @ LuLu's NMB (1:00 PM)
  • Stevie Woodward @ Wahoo's Fish House (5:00 PM)
  • Great Christmas Light Show & Santa's Village @ NMB Park & Sports Complex (5:30 PM)
  • Matt Craine Band @ Dead Dog Saloon (6:00 PM)

From my notebook:

  • A golf cart crash in Carolina Forest sent two people to the hospital on Christmas Eve. The cart overturned on Augusta Plantation Drive, and the two passengers were taken to the hospital with injuries. (WMBF)
  • Palmetto Animal Hospital: From our family to yours, Happy Holidays! We are truly so thankful for each and every one of you. Without you and your pets, we would not be able to do what we love each and every day! (Facebook)
  • Despite staffing shortages, supply chain problems and shipping company issues, some locals made in-person shopping fun at Coastal Grand Mall. Christmas Eve had some folks scrambling to find last-minute gifts at the mall, but there are people who prefer that to online shopping because they can actually see and feel what they're buying. They also don't have to depend on delivery services when shopping so close to the holiday. (wpde.com)
  • Myrtle Beach Harley-Davidson is closed Sunday and Monday. It will reopen on Tuesday, December 28th. (Facebook)
  • Fire crews dealt with two fires in Horry County on Christmas Day. A mulch fire burned half an acre near Mill Pond Road and Highway 544 on Saturday afternoon. Earlier, around mid-day on Saturday, a 10-acre brush fire broke out in Green Sea. Both fires were brought under control. (WBTW)

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
