Here are the top three stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. It's the last day of tax-free weekend in South Carolina. The local news agencies have covered what kind of bargains and deals you can find to save a little bit of cash on back-to-school purchases and more. A handy list of tax-exempt items and items that don't qualify is provided. Items do not need to be purchased in-store. You can take advantage of the the sales tax holiday with online purchases as well. (WMBF) (WBTW) (WBTW)
  2. Oops! A post office error resulted in some utility bills for Myrtle Beach residents being significantly delayed. City officials say bills dated July 22 were inadvertently routed to a bulk mail processing center in Greensboro, North Carolina, where they remained as of Saturday, August 6. The city said customers will not be subject to penalties or disconnection of service because of the error. Balances will be rolled over to the next billing cycle. (WMBF)
  3. Horry County Police are looking for a man wanted for attempted murder. Reginald Francis Neville, 21, is wanted in connection with a shooting that happened July 19 on Chanticleer Village Drive. Neville was last seen driving a light blue Hyundai Tucson with SC license tag SJL-909. It is possible Neville traveled out of state as he has family ties along the east coast from SC to New York. Anyone with info should call authorities at (843)248-1520. (wpde.com)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

Reader Craig Lovejoy says this isn't the usual type of photo we get at the MB Daily, but figured he would send it along just the same. I'm so glad he did! This sea shell sculpture was on the beach at Myrtle Beach State Park recently. Thanks for the great find, Craig!

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
