First, here is a look at today's weather:

Bright sunshine, and clear all day. High: 83 Low: 67.

Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. The Little River Lions Club and the American Legion Post 186 have a tradition of flying flags on area bridges over Highway 17 since September 11, 2003, and Saturday was no exception. The group holds the event every September 11th to remind drivers of those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks of 2001, and in hopes of bringing a sense of unity to the community. (WPDE)
  2. Dr. Michael Sweat of Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) says he believes COVID-19 cases in the state could decline soon, even though South Carolina is currently leading the country in the number of active cases by population. Sweat says the hospital systems are overwhelmed, but they are starting to see some signs indicating cases are on the downslope. This could mean SC has reached its peak with the delta variant, but Sweat warns there could be another increase in the winter months. (WBTW)
  3. Governor Henry McMaster and the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control have issued a statement encouraging monoclonal antibody therapy as a treatment for COVID-19. The message stated that the treatment can only be used for those aged 12 and older who test positive for the virus, and have mild to moderate symptoms that started within the last 10 days before a positive test. The treatment can be done without hospitalization, thereby reducing pressure on area hospitals. (WBTW)
  4. A group of Vietnam Veterans had their annual reunion in Myrtle Beach this week, where they have gotten together every year for the past 16 years. But this time, they had a special surprise: a soldier they had believed had been killed in action 50 years ago has been alive this whole time. The soldier, James Coffee, joined the group for the first time, thanks to another group member who did some searching and tracked him down two years ago. (WMBF)
  5. An officer with HCPD tried to pull over a vehicle in Myrtle Beach near Mr. Joe White Avenue, but the driver took off. Then, at Highway 501 and Highway 17 Bypass, the driver took off again. A high-speed chase ensued down 38th Avenue North and other city streets, then back onto Highway 17 Bypass, Highway 544, Highway 31 and back to Highway 501. The driver, for whom there was already an active warrant in Atlantic Beach, eventually stopped at a gas station on Gardner Lacy Road and was detained on a number of charges. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
