First, a quick check on today's weather:

Clear throughout the day. High: 84 Low: 68.

Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) is doing free boat inspections at public boat landings in South Carolina throughout Labor Day weekend. They will not be issuing tickets if they find any violations during inspections, but are instead trying to be proactive. They do not want boaters to have a negative experience this weekend; they just want folks to be aware of safety protocols when boating. (WPDE)
  2. Two more schools in Horry County are going virtual for a couple of weeks due to high numbers of COVID-19 cases and possible exposures. Whitmore Park Middle School and Ten Oaks Middle School will do online learning for two weeks. They will resume in-person classes September 17th. All sports and other extra-curricular activities are cancelled during the two-week switch to virtual classes. (WBTW)
  3. The City of Myrtle Beach is going to install pedestrian safety rails on Ocean Boulevard on both sides of the street. The decorative fixtures will be placed from 7th Avenue North to 12th Avenue North sometime during the current fiscal year. A proposed design is set up in front of Plyler Park for viewing. The rails, considered a permanent safety feature, will replace the temporary bicycle racks that the city uses occasionally. (WMBF)
  4. With South Carolina's new open carry law now in place, the management of Socastee's 707 Indoor Shooting Range is aiming for safety first. Range manager Laura Longo says people may be confused about the new law, which does not let just anyone buy a pistol and carry it whenever and wherever they want. Open carry only applies to people who have a SC Concealed Weapons Permit. There are a lot of other restrictions as well. The range offers classes and tests, and is open daily except for holidays. 5. Are you stressed out? North Myrtle Beach veteran, Mandy Lowe, has devised a way to burn off some excess tension while staying out of trouble. Aggression Session is a place where you can smash up old cars and glass with a sledgehammer in a safe setting. The business, that opened about a year ago, mid-pandemic, is located on Highway 17 in Atlantic Beach. (WPDE)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
