Hello Grand Strand! The weekend is here already! Here's what's happening in and around town for Friday, June 4.

Happy Friday, Myrtle Beach! Today I'll tell you about free school meals for kids during the summer, a no-wake zone on the Waterway, allocation of Horry County's hospitality fees, a fire victim gets reunited with a special item, and DHEC has some advice about the Carolina Country Music Fest.

  1. Horry County Schools is offering free meals at 17 schools this summer. The program starts June 21, and is available for all children under 18 years old. (WMBF)
  2. Local boaters want a no-wake zone on the Waterway in Little River. Representative William Bailey posted about the topic on his Facebook page, and there was an outpouring of people supporting the idea. (WPDE)
  3. Officials in Horry County have announced that they want funds gleaned from hospitality fees to go towards a new civic center, a boardwalk in Little River, better beach parking in Garden City, and a major roadway in Carolina Forest. (MyHorryNews.com)
  4. A woman who lost her home and everything in it as a result of that 4-alarm fire in Myrtle Beach, was reunited with an American flag that was salvaged from her apartment. The flag was the only item she owned that survived the blaze. (WPDE)
  5. Planning to attend the Carolina Country Music Fest? Health leaders at SCDHEC strongly recommend getting COVID-19 shots, or wearing masks. The festival will take place June 10-13 at Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion. (WBTW)
