Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Weather takes center stage again in today's top stories, but it's not a hurricane this time around! A frost advisory is in place for this morning and Thursday morning all across our area — mainly away from the coast. Temperatures took a fast plunge overnight with areas away from the beach becoming rather frosty. It will be chilly at the beach with temps in the 40s both mornings. The crisp, clear, sunny skies should boost temps into the 60s. Look for temperatures in the 70s by the weekend. (WMBF)
- North Myrtle Beach officials have concluded that the Labor Day boat explosion and fire that happened at the Johnny Causey Landing on the Intracoastal Waterway near Little River was partly caused by a "fault of machinery." The report states that three adults and one toddler were taken to the hospital with burn injuries. (wpde.com)
- The Horry County tax assessor's office spoke out about increased tax rates after taxpayers lined up for hours on Monday to talk about property tax bills. Tax Assessor Larry Roscoe explained that most of the property owners who received higher-than-expected bills are people who just moved to Horry County and have not filed the paperwork to confirm primary residency status. Another group of taxpayers with higher bills are those who received a provisional residential status last year but did not provide the necessary documents required to finalize that status. Primary residents get a 4% tax rate, but need to show proof of primary residency in Horry County in order to be billed that rate. (wpde.com)
- Horry County Council chairman candidate Mark Lazarus published a written statement to the South Carolina Elections Committee expressing his disappointment in the department's investigation of the the absentee ballot error during the primary runoff election in June. The statement can be seen in its entirety in the article here: (WMBF) (wpde.com)
- Early voting begins October 24 in South Carolina. Election day is November 8, but registered voters can cast their ballots between October 24 and November 5. The South Carolina Election Commission has released a list of early voting locations by county. Note that voting locations will be closed on Sunday, October 30. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
