Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Chilly daylight saving time! Not only will temps go below freezing tonight, but also daylight saving time starts at 2:00 a.m. Don't forget to set your clocks ahead by one hour. Spring forward! (WBTW)
- Contrary to a report earlier this week, it looks as though the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce's lodging dashboard is showing fewer tourists for the next couple of weeks than the Grand Strand saw in 2021. The new results came in on Friday, and show occupancy trends going down to 49% by March 31 which is lower than the same dates last year. However, it looks like bookings will jump ahead of last year's numbers for the rest of the 2022 spring season. (wpde.com)
- Myrtle Beach International Airport was named the 2021 Category II-IV Airport of the Year by the TSA, during TSA Honorary Awards ceremony held each year. MYR was recognized for outstanding operational performance during 2021. MYR shares the honor with Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, that was selected as the large airport winner. (WMBF)
- An Orangeburg, South Carolina man has been convicted for drug and weapons charges stemming from an arrest in Nash County, NC. The man, who was driving from Connecticut to Myrtle Beach during overnight hours, had children with him in the car. Authorities say he made the children urinate in bottles during the long drive to Myrtle Beach. When he was stopped for speeding, drugs, cash, and a loaded firearm were discovered in the car, along with the children, who had been sleeping. The man was convicted on drug trafficking charges, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. (WBTW)
- Brookgreen Gardens has three new baby animals at its Floyd Family Farm exhibit. A female goat, Tammy, gave birth to three baby goats. The triplets are of the Lowcountry Spanish goat bloodline, a rare breed of goat that Brookgreen has been breeding for more than a decade in collaboration with the Spanish Goat Conservation Society. (SpotOnSouthCarolina.com) Oyster Roast & Bloody Mary Contest at Wicked Tuna, Murrells Inlet postponed until March 27. (wave104.com)
- FunPlex is not sure if it will be opening for the season (as planned) on March 12. As of the time of this posting, it is still planning to open, but management is aware of the threat of severe weather. (WPDE)
- It looks as though Surfside BBQ is postponed until March 25 & 26, but double-check if you are planning on trying to go. There's conflicting information on different websites. (VisitMyrtleBeach.com)
- The USDA has announced that it will use funds from the new Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to pay for a preliminary investigation feasibility report for the Buck Creek Watershed that will lead to flooding solutions in Horry County. (WBTW)
- The City of Conway is considering adding roundabouts on Main Street. SCDOT officials say roundabouts are safer for everyone, reducing crashes, injuries, and fatalities. They are not cheap to construct, though, but city leaders think it is doable. (Myhorrynews)
- There's also talk around Conway about getting fuel alternative, or electric, vehicles for police. Rising fuel prices are obviously what sparked the conversation. There are already charging stations at Horry County Memorial Library in Conway, and in a parking lot at Fourth and Laurel Streets. (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
