Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. One person died and three others were injured in a motorcycle wreck near Garden City and Surfside Beach late Sunday night. Two motorcycles were heading north on Highway 17 near Woodland Drive when one bike rear-ended the other. Each bike was carrying two people and all of them were ejected from the motorcycles. Autumn Viar, 36, of Amherst, Virginia was brought to the emergency room at Tidelands Waccamaw Hospital, but died of her injuries. The three other riders were hospitalized and there is no information on their condition at this time. (Myhorrynews) (wpde.com) (WMBF)
  2. Hurricane Ian could bring heavy rain and stormy conditions to Horry County, but the Grand Strand is not expected to get a hurricane. At least that's the latest as of the time of this posting. Models indicate that the storm will track into Georgia, not the Carolinas. Even so, there is the potential for flooded roads and low-lying areas from extensive rainfall. Let's keep our eyes on Ian as things transpire over the next few days. (Myhorrynews) (wpde.com) Grand Strand high school football games have been rescheduled ahead of the storm. (WMBF)
  3. The brand-new Myrtle Beach emergency mass notification system should get a great test with Hurricane Ian brewing just south of us. The new safety tool will be a quick and easy way to access timely info during emergencies including hurricanes. Over 1,200 people have signed up for the system called ReGroup Mass Notification System. Visitors to the Grand Strand can sign up for the alerts because the system is not only for Myrtle Beach residents. (WMBF)
  4. North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue: "Around 3:17 am Monday morning C-Battalon units responded to assist Horry County Fire Rescue with a commercial structure fire in Atlantic Beach. Crews remained on scene until being released around 5:30 a.m." (North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue via Facebook) One first responder was injured and taken to the hospital, but there is no information on the extent of injuries or their condition. The fire happened at the Sandbox Bar & Grill (also known as the Off The Hook Club) on 30th Avenue South. Officials have confirmed that the bar was destroyed. (WBTW) (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
