Here is a look at Tuesday's weather:
Mostly sunny today; scattered thunderstorms at night. High: 84 Low: 73.
Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Gas prices have dropped slightly in Myrtle Beach over the last week or so. This is mainly due to decreased demand. Here on the Grand Strand, our prices are below the national average. Tropical storm Nicholas is approaching the Texas coast, however, and could impact refineries there. The fuel industry is still recovering from refineries in Louisiana being hit hard by Hurricane Ida. Industry professionals are watching closely, but are pleased that the demand from the summer tourist season is basically over. (WMBF)
- A home in Forest Brook near the elementary school on Wild Game Trail went up in flames around mid-morning on Sunday. Firefighters had the blaze under control by the afternoon, and no one was reported injured. Six people were displaced, and the Red Cross is providing assistance. The cause of the fire is under investigation. (wpde.com)
- Horry-Georgetown Technical College professor of cybersecurity, Stanton Greenawalt, is giving parents tips on computer safety as more students rely on distance learning. Due to rising COVID-19 cases, at-home learning is still in place for families needing the option. Professor Greenawalt says it's important to keep computer systems updated, and make sure very secure access protocols are in place to prevent hacking. Greenawalt recommends that if hacking does occur, notify the school immediately, and use the FBI's websites to report hacking incidents. (WMBF)
- Last weekend's Art In The Common festival at Market Common included one local craftsman who kept himself afloat through the pandemic by selling his coastal art pieces online. Ed Elsaesser, owner of Alpine Craft Works, got creative during the pandemic by selling his wares online through sites like Etsy, when most of the shows he usually worked at were cancelled. Now, he estimates, about one-third of his work is permanently being sold online. Elsaesser's works include coastal-themed pieces that use real megalodon teeth, as well as handcrafted clocks, and wood frames. (WPDE)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
