Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Georgetown County Fire and EMS Department has temporarily eliminated one ambulance due to staffing shortages. The staffing problems have been happening for quite some time, and leaders decided to temporarily bench one vehicle. Response times are unaffected, says the Assistant Fire Chief, Tony Hucks. There are EMTs and paramedics in training right now, but it will be some time before they are ready to begin working. (WMBF)
- Parking rates in downtown Myrtle Beach could be increasing soon, as City Council ponders raising the prices at parking meters and city-owned parking lots. Parking passes and all-day rates would go up, too. (wpde.com)
- Several fights that broke out at a North Myrtle Beach bar resulted in the arrest of eight people over the weekend. A large crowd had gathered at Sky Bar as multiple fights started taking place. Officers were called in around 1:20 a.m. Sunday morning. Most of the arrested people were charged with disorderly conduct. Some officers were pushed and hit during the incident. All those arrested were later released on bond. (WBTW)
- A former McLeod Seacoast Hospital nurse is looking at six counts of violating drug distribution laws and nine counts of theft of controlled substances. Bryan K. Bird is accused of stealing several drugs meant for patients, and all of the drugs are on the controlled substances list. Bird is being held at Long Detention Center, but was granted bond. (wpde.com)
- Horry County's Board of Education preliminarily approved a proposed budget of close to $900 million on Monday. The district also announced plans to use funds that are in reserve to meet the budget. The board wants to provide a 2% raise for district employees that would total over $7 million, and teachers would receive a salary increase of $2,000. Bus drivers will be getting a salary increase of 8% thanks to a state mandate. The final budget vote and a public hearing is scheduled for June 6. (WMBF)

- Horry County government will do a routine test of the scanner that counts absentee ballots. The test will happen on Friday, June 10, at 8 a.m. in Conway at the Registration and Elections office. - Myrtle Beach International Airport is looking for therapy dogs. 🐶 🐾 If you have a therapy dog that is certified through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, and you're local to the Myrtle Beach area, you can join the P.E.T.S. program at the airport. 🐾 You and your certified therapy dog would need to be available to visit the airport once a week. (Facebook)
- On Monday, Lt. Governor Pamela Evette and Miss Myrtle Beach, Brooke Vu, joined a group of about 50 people to clean up the boardwalk area in Myrtle Beach. The pair participated in picking up litter, recycling and beautifying the area. The event was set up by Keep Myrtle Beach Beautiful. The organization always needs more volunteers. (wpde.com)
- North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue shared some statistics about grilling that folks may or may not be aware of. The department reminds us all to practice fire safety when grilling. Safety first! (Facebook)

Now you're in the loop and ready to start this Wednesday off right. I'll see you Thursday for another edition of the MB Daily. Atlantic Beach BikeFest is happening this weekend, and we are already seeing lots of motorcyclists rolling into town. Even more are expected to arrive Thursday and of course Friday. Pack your patience and be extra careful on the roads.

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
