Here are the top four stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Authorities in Georgetown have a man in custody after he barricaded himself inside a home for several hours on Saturday. The man faces multiple charges including discharging a firearm into a dwelling. Shots were heard and reported around 4:15 a.m. A person in the home said the man had returned home intoxicated and began firing a weapon inside and outside the home. He then barricaded himself in a bedroom. Neighboring homes were evacuated and other residents were instructed to shelter in place. The man was taken into custody just before 9 a.m. and was brought to Georgetown County Detention Center. There were no injuries. (WMBF) (WBTW)
- The folks at All 4 Paws Animal Rescue in Pawleys Island are putting out the word on the importance of fostering homeless animals. Fostering reduces much-needed shelter space and gives the pet a more likely chance of being adopted. That's because potential adopters meet the pet in a home instead of inside a cage at a noisy facility. As with all the other shelters on the Grand Strand, All 4 Paws is currently at capacity and is urging locals to get involved by fostering a cat or dog from the rescue. If you can't foster or adopt, All 4 Paws needs volunteers, too. The rescue will be hosting an event to help educate people on how fostering a pet works — Thursday, September 22 at 4 p.m. at Rocco's Authentic Street Food. (wpde.com)
- The Lake View Commons Shopping Center is being built on the corner of Highway 17 and 9th Avenue in North Myrtle Beach. The plaza will have a different vibe than normally seen on the Grand Strand. Developers designed the plaza with a 'modern Palm Beach style' to bring something unique to the area. The developer, Michael King, said residents are very excited about the new center which will include a steakhouse, shops and office space. Phase one should be completed and open in the spring of 2023. (WMBF)
- Murrells Inlet residents weighed in with their concerns over a proposed new housing development on Friday. The group met with developers near Indigo Creek Golf Course where a proposed 48 homes were to be added with 7,800 square foot lots. Residents are concerned that additional homes on small lots and tree removal will cause drainage and traffic problems. After about an hour-long meeting, the parties reached some compromises. The lots will be 10,000 square feet and 43 homes, instead of the original 48, will be submitted with the developer's new plans. A second reading of the rezoning proposal by Horry County Council will happen at Tuesday's meeting. (wpde.com)

- Nextdoor Neighbor, The Park: [post by Jennifer Archer]"Hey everyone! I am running a project called Santa Claus for Paws. It's our goal to provide toys, treats and blankets to at least 1,000 rescue animals in our area. So far we are helping the Humane Society of North Myrtle Beach, Freedom Ride Transport and Rescue, Grand Strand Humane Society, AAART, HCACC and a few more to be selected. We have an Amazon wish list, Walmart wish list and Venmo. I am looking for a few drop off locations in NMB, MB, Conway and Carolina Forest." (Nextdoor) Related post: (Nextdoor)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
