Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- The storm warnings for our area have been upgraded to Hurricane Warnings by the National Hurricane Center and National Weather Service. Conditions are going to be worsening throughout the day today with both wind and rain being severe and able to cause damage and injury. A storm surge warning is also in effect for all of coastal Horry and Georgetown counties with the surge possibly being as high as six feet. Expect very strong winds with gusts. Heavy rainfall is expected all along the Grand Strand. Right now, Ian is being forecasted as a Category 1 hurricane as it approaches the Charleston area. - Closings, cancellations and postponements around the area: (WBTW)(WMBF) In other hurricane-related news, the famous Goat Island goats were evacuated from Murrells Inlet ahead of the hurricane. (WMBF) Pawleys Island closed both its North and South Causeways ahead of the storm. (WMBF) The City of Conway joined the state and Horry County in declaring a state of emergency. (wpde.com) Beach patrols posted a double red flag along Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach beaches indicating beaches are closed and there is no ocean swimming allowed. (WBTW) (wpde.com)

- Human remains found in Georgetown earlier this week have been identified as the missing man authorities were searching for at the time of the discovery. Wesley Blake, 31, had been missing since July 29 when he was last seen near St. Francis Animal Center. Coroner Chase Ridgeway identified the skeletal remains as Blake. The cause and manner of death are yet to be determined. (WBTW) (wpde.com)
- One person is in custody for break-ins reported in the Market Common area after Myrtle Beach Police requested the public's help in identifying a man seen in surveillance camera photos. - North Myrtle Beach Police: DID YOU KNOW??? Six inches of water can knock over and carry away an adult. Twelve inches of fast-moving water can carry away a small car. 18-24 inches of fast-moving water can carry away most large SUV'S vans and trucks. Don't take the chance! Don't drive on flooded roads!
