Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Two people from Myrtle Beach were arrested on drug charges in Florida after parking in a Wendy's drive-thru lane for "an extended period of time" according to Lady Lake, Florida police. The pair were charged with trafficking of fentanyl, possession of a controlled substance and several other charges. The man is being held on a $54,000 bond in Lake County, Florida. The woman was released on a $28,000 bond on Friday. (WBTW)
  2. Another Myrtle Beach man faces up to a 90-year sentence for child sexual abuse charges. The man was charged with nine counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, punishable by up to ten years imprisonment on each count. (wpde.com)
  3. For the second time in recent weeks, a criminal suspect was tracked down using city surveillance cameras. The suspect was charged with attempted murder after a shooting incident near Highway 501 and Broadway Street. A victim with gunshot wounds was found at a nearby car crash. The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. (wpde.com)
  4. Who would've thought that gasoline prices would drop by 14 cents a gallon in Myrtle Beach in early July? That's exactly what happened over the past few days, according to GasBuddy. The gas price tracking organization estimates the average price per gallon on the Grand Strand is $4.12, but there are a couple of gas stations selling at $3.89 per gallon. GasBuddy says we are not completely out of the woods yet, and there could be another spike in August. (WMBF)
  5. Landowners who were overcharged for stormwater fees will be getting refund checks. Horry County began mailing approximately 18,000 refund checks to property owners who have been overcharged for four years. The only wrinkle will be issuing refunds on properties that have changed ownership in the last few years. The county is working on a verification program on its website for these cases, but that is not available yet. One interesting tidbit is that people will be given the choice of getting a refund check, or donating the money to HC Animal Care Center, where the funds would be used to cover the veterinary care of the animals. Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
