Welcome to the Myrtle Beach Daily! Your one-stop place for all the news and happenings in and around the Grand Strand.

Happy Saturday, Myrtle Beach! Let's get you all caught up to start today off on an informed note. Today, I'll tell you about a special adoption event this weekend for Grand Strand Humane Society, a Myrtle Beach hotel is deemed unsafe for habitation, a drowning victim was identified, custodial jobs available at HC Schools, and a local mom speaks out about RSV in kids.
First, a look at Saturday's weather: Clear throughout the day. High: 85 Low: 76.
Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Grand Strand Humane Society will hold a special 2-day adoption event today and Sunday from 11:00 AM - 6:00 PM as it prepared to move to a temporary location while the building undergoes repairs for 30 days. The temporary move will be much easier with fewer animals. Approximately 200 animals are up for adoption. Adoption fees are waived for this special event. Maybe you'll find your new best friend! (WBTW)
- Myrtle Beach Code Enforcement declared the Seaside Plaza Motel unsafe for human habitation on Thursday, and gave residents of the building five hours to vacate the premises. The agency found several safety and life violations, as well as maintenance and structural issues. This led to the order that no one would be allowed to stay in the building. It was also discovered that a business license may have been lacking. (WMBF)
- A 15-year old drowning victim has been identified as Ma Duong of Archdale, North Carolina. The teen died from asphyxiation due to drowning. His body was discovered in a Myrtle Beach hotel swimming pool after he'd been missing for several hours following an evening swim. Police and Duong's family searched for him that night, but he was not found until the next morning. (MyHorryNews)
- Horry County Schools are looking to fill 42 custodial vacancies before the new academic year begins. The county held a job fair on Thursday at its district office, and over 150 people showed up to apply for the jobs. There were lots of qualified folks interviewed, and if all the positions are not filled, the county will work with the staff they have while continuing to fill the vacant positions. (WPDE)
- A Grand Strand mother whose two children contracted respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) wants other parents to know the warning signs. There has been an increase of RSV, normally a seasonal "winter" illness, recently. Carlee Dewey's two children were taken to the hospital on separate occasions after each caught the illness. Symptoms include loss of appetite, a cough and difficulty breathing. The Dewey children have recovered. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
