Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Fallen Myrtle Beach Police officer, Ptl. Jacob Hancher was memorialized with a bronze plate on his monument at Ted C. Collins Law Enforcement Center. Since his death in the line of duty on October 3, 2020, Hancher has been inducted into the SC Law Enforcement Hall of Fame, his name is etched in the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall, and River Oaks Boulevard was re-named the Officer Jacob Hancher Memorial Highway. The bronze plate was installed recently, and can be seen at the Memorial Fountain at the Collins Center. (WMBF)
- There have been four local arrests in less than a week of medical personnel stealing medications. A pharmacist at CVS in Little River admitted to stealing multiple drugs, and a registered nurse at Conway Medical Center is accused of stealing morphine. Two other workers stole medication while working at medical establishments, and were also arrested. It is possible these four arrests were part of a larger DHEC operation, but authorities are staying mum on the topic. (WMBF)
- Friday, April 1, the Myrtle Beach Food Truck Festival is back! The event took two years off because of the pandemic, but organizers are ready to have a weekend-long fest of local and regional food trucks, live music, beer and wine, and a kid zone at Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion. The fun begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, and goes through Sunday. On Saturday and Sunday, the event opens at 11 a.m. Lists of vendors, and musical performers is in the link following here. (wpde.com)
- Transgender advocates from the organization, T-Time Transgender Support, are speaking out against Rep. Tom Rice who is signing a bill that would restrict transgender women from participating in scholastic sports. Some advocates say if the bill passes, it would cause more harm than good, stating that the move would likely push division and exclusion. Today is Transgender Day of Visibility. (WBTW)
- It's been a year since Horry County Council rejected a rezoning request for a housing development in Carolina Forest, and now the same owner of that property is asking for a zoning change for a new project. The property is near Carolina Forest High School on Gardner Lacy Road. Last year's proposal was for 58 single-family homes, which was rejected by Council. The new proposal calls for 11 single-family homes on 10,000-square-foot lots. Councilman Dennis DiSabato says if the community is opposed to the project, as they have been with other proposals, then he cannot support it, either. (MyHorryNews.com)

- Horry County Schools 13th Annual Technology fair had its first in-person gathering in two years at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, and this year's event included esports. Students in the esports category played video games that became competitive, including Mario Smash Bros, racing games, and other games. Robotics was also a featured event, with engineering students who created the machines themselves. Another group of students worked on solar-powered go karts. (WBTW) Photo gallery: (Myhorrynews)

That's it for Thursday, everyone. I'll be in your inbox Friday morning with another Grand Strand update!
— Kathy Mandell
About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
