Taking a look at Monday's weather:

Partly sunny and humid. High: 82 Low: 69.

Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. One year after police officer Jacob Hancher was shot and killed in the line of duty while responding to a domestic disturbance call, he was honored at several weekend events on the Grand Strand. A section of River Oaks Drive was renamed in his memory, and a memorial stone was dedicated to him at a fountain on North Oak Street. Saturday, a playground was dedicated in his honor at Waterway Palms, and on Sunday a special mass was held at St. James Catholic Church in Conway. (WBTW)
  2. A rally for abortion rights was held Saturday in Myrtle Beach's Chapin Park. The organizers of the rally, Grand Strand Action Together, is a group focusing on new South Carolina legislation that may ban abortions after six weeks of pregnancy. The rally in Myrtle Beach was one of many marches and gatherings held nationwide on Saturday. Other groups that participated include Socastee High Young Democrats and the Democratic Women's Council. (Myhorrynews)
  3. The 23rd Annual Fall Bike week was a roaring success. The autumn event, that takes place mainly in Murrells Inlet, attracts riders from the Carolinas, Georgia and Florida, and has a more local feel than the spring rally that brings bikers from all across the country. Organizers at the biker bar, Suck Bang Blow, said the event runs like a well-oiled machine. (wpde.com)
  4. Brookgreen Gardens' Sandy Island School has been added to the National Park Service's African American Civil Rights Network. The school, purchased by the Huntington family in the 1930s, was instrumental in the development of education, health care and voting rights for the African-American community. (holycitysinner.com)
  5. Jess Saygun opened Winna's Kitchen on Main Street in Myrtle Beach last month. The formerly homeless Saygun, along with her husband and daughter, are helping to revitalize the downtown area of Myrtle Beach. The restaurant offers gift cards to donate to homeless people so they can get a meal at the establishment. The restaurant is named after Saygun's mother, who died a couple years ago. (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
