First, the chilly Friday weather outlook:

Partly sunny, windy and cool. High: 58 Low: 45.

Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. For the first time since July, Horry County has returned to a "moderate" incidence rate of COVID-19, says SC Department of Health and Environmental Control. Horry joins several other South Carolina counties categorized as moderate, which is defined as between 51 - 200 cases per 100,000 people in a two-week period. Cases have been on a steady decline after a surge in August. (WBTW)
  2. Horry County Fire Rescue has set a record for the number of calls it has responded to in 2021 — and we still have November and December to go. The department responded to 63,621 calls, breaking its record set in 2020. Earlier this week, 22 new volunteer recruits and 63 new firefighters were added to the force to help first responders. (wpde.com)
  3. Nicholas Languerand of Little River has pleaded guilty in Washington, DC for his involvement in the January 6th attack of the U.S. Capitol. He was accused of assaulting officers with a dangerous weapon — objects that he threw at officers. The U.S. Attorney's Office for D.C. stated that the objects were capable of inflicting serious bodily injury. Languerand was arrested in April, and entered a guilty plea on Wednesday. He is scheduled to be sentenced in January, and could face 20 years in prison and a $250K fine. (WMBF)
  4. Councilman Harold Worley made comments at Tuesday's Horry County Council meeting regarding the $300 million that Governor McMaster recently pledged for funding Interstate 73. Worley gave a "resounding no" when asked if he thought the state would approve funding for the highway. Commitment for the project requires the SC General Assembly to approve the funds. Both Worley, and his colleague, William Bailey, believe that is unlikely to happen. (WBTW)
  5. Proposed completion of the Highway 31 extension from Horry County to Brunswick County (NC) is getting started. Monday, November 8th is the deadline for the public to submit comments on the Carolina Bays Parkway Extension project. Feedback can be submitted on NCDOT's website. About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
