Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Horry-Georgetown Technical College is going tuition-free from now until the 2023 calendar year. All programs this spring, summer and fall will be offered at zero tuition, and no fees, either. There are some eligibility requirements, but the offer generally applies to all new, current, and returning students. (WMBF)
- Coastal Carolina University had 16 positive COVID-19 cases last week. This is the lowest number of cases in at least two months, and comes as the university voted to end indoor mask mandates campus-wide. The mask order ended Thursday. The university had set a record of 192 cases reported the week of January 26th. (WBTW)
- The City of North Myrtle Beach has officially approved a new paid parking system that does away with beach parking decals for cars. The system will check license plates on automobiles. Golf carts will still need stickers. Residents must register online for new parking passes. Unfortunately, the 200 spots for Horry County residents living outside the city limits sold out already. As always, paid parking machines can be used at the beach. Paid parking begins March 1, 2022. (WMBF)
- North Myrtle Beach is also looking to hire more than 200 seasonal workers: lifeguards, beach attendants and other positions. The hourly rate of pay for the positions has increased from $7.50 per hour to $12 an hour for some positions. Bonuses are also being paid. "It takes a small army" to run the place, said the city's director of parks and recreation, John Bullard. The city is also hoping to hire 20 J1 students from other countries to fill some of the positions. (WBTW)
- Here's one way to remember your wedding anniversary... tie the knot on 2-2-22! That's just what Margaret and Greg Busch did on Tuesday! The couple, originally from New York, moved to Myrtle Beach a few years ago, and they got lucky that everything worked out perfectly for their magical day, after throwing it together in about three weeks. The ceremony took place near the SkyWheel. (WACH.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
