Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- North Myrtle Beach officials say more than eight inches of rain fell between Friday evening and Saturday. They are calling the rain event "historic" after deeming it one of the top five rainfall events of the past 20 years for the city. Residents in the Cherry Grove area saw major ponding in their yards, and some flooding inside homes. City leaders went on an inspection tour Saturday afternoon to meet with residents. (wpde.com).
- Neighbors in Cherry Grove and North Myrtle Beach worked together on Saturday to try to mitigate the flooding inside of homes, with some saying this is the first time their home has ever flooded. Some residents say new construction nearby is causing the flooding. (WBTW)
- No one was injured after a man fired a weapon in Myrtle Beach on Tuesday. The suspect was charged with one count of first-degree assault and battery. The shooting happened near 8th Avenue North and Lumber Street. (WMBF) (Myrtle Beach Police Department via Facebook)
- 16-year-old Grand Strand leukemia patient Ali Johnson had to postpone her Make A Wish trip for two years because of the pandemic, but now she's ready to go. Ali's trip is the first Make A Wish trip to depart the Grand Strand since before the pandemic. Her original destination was set to be Europe with a Mediterranean Cruise, but now the foundation is only allowing trips within the United States, so Ali chose Alaska for her substitute destination. She said the trip was worth the wait — she got to see Iditarod dogs and she went whale watching. (wpde.com)

Officer Seppi stopped to help him load the dryer. That's just one example of beyond the call of duty! (Myrtle Beach Police Department via Facebook)
- One North Myrtle Beach resident is praising the city for its text alert system that kept folks informed about the manhunt that happened on Thursday. The system was put in place several years ago, and this week's incident may have been the most dangerous situation to have been alerted about since its inception. Residents were texted or telephoned by the automated system and told to stay indoors. Other areas on the Grand Strand have alert systems as well. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
