Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. South Carolina Highway Patrol is starting checkpoints and patrols on the state's roadways for the holidays. State troopers will be busy, starting this week and through the holiday season. Even with COVID-19 in play, last year there were 14 traffic deaths in South Carolina on Thanksgiving weekend, and 1,300 accidents. The patrols will include license checking, drunk driving, and safety checkpoints. (WMBF)
  2. A man reported missing from his Murrells Inlet home has been found, and is safe. Horry County Police said the man has serious medical conditions that prompted significant concern when he went missing on Monday. He was located Monday night, and safely returned home. (wpde.com)
  3. The annual toy drive started by Darius Hemingway three years ago is continuing in his memory. Hemingway was killed in a Myrtle Beach shooting in October of 2020. The Racepath community was his home, and his cousin vowed to keep his toy drive going in Darius' memory and honor. The event will be happening in Racepath Park on December 18th. Toy donations can also be dropped off at various locations throughout the Grand Strand (list in article). (WBTW)
  4. Several Horry County families celebrated National Adoption Day with their new family members on Monday. There are 51 kids scheduled to be adopted across South Carolina, and seven of those were confirmed in Horry County Court. National Adoption Day brings awareness to the number of children in the youth age group needing to get out of foster care and into an adoptive family before they "age out" of the foster system. (WBTW)
  5. A new RV park campground off Highway 544 is being proposed to the Horry County Planning Commission. If approved, the 161-space campground would be next to Bojangles at the intersection of 544 and Pace Circle. The park is unique because Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge is right behind it, giving RVers a different option from the usual beachside or resort camping areas currently offered on the Grand Strand. The developers will speak at a public hearing on Thursday, December 2nd at HC Government and Justice Center. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.

Have a news tip or suggestion for an upcoming Myrtle Beach Daily? I'm all ears. You can email me at myrtlebeach@patch.com.
