Happy Tuesday, people of Myrtle Beach! It's a new month! Today is March 1, 2022, and it's also Mardi Gras. Spring is in the air! Here's everything you need to know about what's happening today in town.

A check on Tuesday's weather:

Sunshine and milder. High: 63 Low: 46.

Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Looks like we got enough rain on Sunday, because Horry County has lifted the burn ban that was in place due to dry weather conditions. The ban is lifted effective immediately. Officials do remind folks not to burn when conditions are too dry and/or windy. (WMBF)
  2. Pets are family members too, and pet insurance could be the next employee perk on the horizon for city workers. The City of Myrtle Beach is considering the option, as it was discussed during the city's budget retreat in Pinopolis last week. During the pandemic, a lot of people adopted pets because of being out of work, on leave, or working at home. Having pet insurance as an employment benefit is an attractive prospect for workers with pets. Vet bills are expensive! No decision by the city has been made yet. (Myhorrynews)
  3. Anyone interested in attending former President Trump's Save America Rally in Florence on March 12 must register online first. Only two tickets per registered mobile phone number will be allowed — issued on a first come, first served basis. The event begins at 7:00 p.m. at Florence Regional Airport. Doors will open at 2:00 p.m. that day. (WPDE)
  4. Last week, we reported that Myrtle Beach will receive around $4.3 million from opioid settlement funds coming to South Carolina. Two other municipalities in Horry County are eligible to receive settlement money from the case: North Myrtle Beach ($1.4 million); and Conway ($660,000). (MyHorryNews.com)
  5. Everywhere I go in town lately I see "now hiring" signs posted. From restaurants to shipping and office supply places, to everything in between. Myrtle Beach is now hiring! Check out the latest local job postings from Patch and ZipRecruiter. (Myrtle Beach Patch)

Looking for a healthy alternative to that mid-week glass (or three) of wine? Our partners at Betera set out to create beverages that were sophisticated and flavorful enough to drink at cocktail hour but with zero hangover risk. (Their motto is "Drink like there's tomorrow.") Betera's drinks are designed by a Michelin-starred chef using natural botanicals — they're lightly effervescent, sippable, refreshingly bitter and at home in a stem glass or in a highball on the rocks. Betera offers three recipes — Rhubarb-Hibiscus, Elderflower-Lime and Ginger-Orange. We've tried all three and loved them equally — we recommend the mixed case as a great place to start.
Betera has extended their 15% discount on first orders to Daily readers, in appreciation for the enthusiastic response so far. Enter Patch15 at checkout and https://bit.ly/TryBetera.

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
