Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Horry County GOP has unanimously censured Senator Lindsey Graham because he supports gun reforms. Graham supports red-flag laws outlined in the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. The Horry County Republican Party approved a resolution on August 1 announcing the party's formal disapproval of Graham, calling his support of the Senate's gun reform bill a "conscious and deliberate violation of our Republican principles and the South Carolina Republican Party platform." Graham defended his support of the bill in a recent press release. (wpde.com) (WBTW)
- The Horry County GOP also wants an investigation into the county's June 28 runoff election, citing "numerous instances of flaws in electronic voting equipment". The party chairman is planning to present a resolution to Horry County Council at its meeting on Tuesday night. The resolution focuses on the well-publicized mistake that the HC Board of Voters Registration and Elections office made when it mailed out 1,400 Democrat ballots to Republican voters. Candidate Mark Lazarus challenged the outcome of the election, but later dropped his appeal. The HC GOP wants a thorough investigation and is asking that the use of electronic voting machines in South Carolina be deemed illegal. (wpde.com) (WBTW)
- A rental home and several vehicles were damaged in a crash and fire that happened in the wee hours of Sunday morning on North Ocean Boulevard in North Myrtle Beach. A driver lost control of a vehicle near Spring Street in the Cherry Grove area of the city, struck a utility box and caught fire. The vehicle continued moving across a divider in the driveway of a home in the 1900 block of North Ocean Boulevard, struck a parked pickup truck, went airborne and overturned. Three other vehicles and golf carts parked nearby were also struck. A few homes were evacuated and none of the occupants of the affected homes were injured. Two people in the vehicle that crashed were taken to a hospital for treatment. (WMBF) (wpde.com)
- According to Redfin, Myrtle Beach trails only Detroit for the fastest-growing housing sales prices in the United States. Detroit's prices went up around 37 percent year-over-year, while Myrtle Beach's prices went up 34 percent. The remainder of the top ten cities with the fastest-growing prices are all in Florida! Even with the 34 percent increase, Myrtle Beach home prices are selling at about one-percent below list price and they sell within about 52 days on average. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
