Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. The Centers for Disease Control announced on Thursday that less than 10% of the U.S. population now lives in areas where masks are recommended for indoor public spaces. Each county in the United States can be checked for its "community level" on the CDC website using its new "COVID-19 By County" search tool. The goal is for a community to be listed as "low" status. Horry County's Community Level is LOW, and so is Georgetown County's! Check it out for yourself in the link: (cdc.gov)
  2. A 20-year-old is in custody because he stabbed a person at Chapin Park. The victim was sitting on a bench in the park. The suspect was nearby and was singing. The person on the bench asked the suspect to stop singing. At that point, the suspect walked up to the victim and stabbed them with a knife, then left the scene. The suspect was located later and arrested for first-degree assault and battery and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to recover. (WMBF)
  3. Four blocks of North Kings Highway are under a boil water advisory after a contractor doing road work in the area accidentally hit a 16-inch water main. The boil advisory is for properties on the east side of Kings Highway between Mr. Joe White Avenue and 14th Avenue North. Water should be boiled if it's being used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth or washing dishes. (WMBF)
  4. Residents in Little River packed the Horry County Planning Commission meeting on Thursday to oppose a new home development. The neighbors say the area where the homes are set to be built is a flood zone. County documents indicate it is not a flood zone, but residents disagree. The commission approved the plan despite the community's objections, but it can't be passed until a stormwater study is completed. (WBTW)
  5. A local mom is accused of having her underage children shoplift from a Target store in Myrtle Beach. Police reviewed surveillance video which showed the woman's children concealing items inside of a backpack and purse. Then, the woman and her kids were seen walking past the registers and not paying for the items. Once she was detained, officers found multiple items in the woman's backpack that were not purchased, as well as drugs. She was arrested, then posted a $40,000 bond, and was released. (WMBF)

That's it for Saturday, everybody! I'll catch up with you tomorrow for your Sunday edition of the Myrtle Beach Daily!

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
