Here are the top four stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- As of the latest reports, Hurricane Ian is expected to weaken before it arrives in the Carolinas over the weekend. It is tracking to become a tropical depression late Friday and then is likely to become a remnant low Saturday and Sunday. But as we know, hurricanes can change quickly and we should still expect considerable rainfall along with tidal flooding in low-lying areas like Cherry Grove and Garden City. Governor McMaster spoke at a news conference Tuesday afternoon regarding preparations the state is making ahead of the storm. Horry County emergency management officials are preparing for possible impact and will release a full assessment on Wednesday. Make sure your emergency preparedness kit is up to snuff. - Some events scheduled for this coming weekend have been postponed in anticipation of heavy rain and flooding. The Surfside Beach Family Festival will take place November 5. The Tidelands "In The Pink" breast cancer awareness walk has been moved to October 8. Brookgreen Gardens has rescheduled its Harvest Home Weekend to October 8 and 9. Other cancelations and postponements will be announced here when info becomes available.
- The Myrtle Beach Police Department is reporting that cameras captured a man breaking into several vehicles in the Market Common area on Sunday. Officers responded to multiple vehicle break-in calls that happened mostly during the overnight hours. The department is asking for assistance from the public in identifying a person involved in the break-ins who was caught on surveillance cameras. Anyone with info can contact the Intel Unit by email at intelunit@cityofmyrtlebeach.com (WMBF) (Myrtle Beach Police Department via Facebook)
- *Warning: Some readers may find this story and accompanying images disturbing* A seriously injured female dog was found on Highway 17 Bypass near South Strand Medical Center on Sunday night. Photos of the dog show that she had been pierced in the chest with a carabiner and a length of heavy chain was hanging from the device. The dog is safe at Horry County Animal Care Center. Anyone with information regarding the owner of the dog is urged to call the crime tips hotline at (843) 915-8477 or email crimetips@horrycounty.org (WBTW) (WMBF) (wpde.com)

Orange skies! Today's pic of the day was sent in by reader S. Bonnshack, who snapped this gorgeous view from a balcony overlooking Sands Beach Club. Looks like an early morning before beach gear was set up. Thanks for the gorgeous pic, S. Bonnshack!

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
