Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Horry County Schools will pay $260,000 to settle a lawsuit with a school board member who sued the board after she fell walking into a 2017 meeting. The school board on Monday unanimously voted to settle the case with District 2 board member Sherrie Todd, who represents parts of Myrtle Beach and Carolina Forest. (Myhorrynews)
- Horry County deputy worries about the community while battling COVID-19 in hospital for two months. Sheriff Deputy Joe Muszynski has been in Grand Strand Medical Center for 56 days. His symptoms starting six days before he was hospitalized where he monitored his oxygen from home. Muszynski is the only Horry County deputy to be hospitalized with COVID-19. He's currently using sick time through work while he's hospitalized, but once that runs out, his coworkers have already stepped up, volunteering their time so Muszynski doesn't have to take unpaid time.(wpde.com)
- Mayor Brenda Bethune announced the open-enrollment deadline for Myrtle Beach city employees to sign up for health benefits has been pushed back to Jan. 15 during Tuesday morning's city council meeting. (WBTW)
- Horry County leaders are prioritizing mental health services for first responders through the Horry County Fire Rescue Peer Support Team. (WMBF)
- Gas prices in Myrtle Beach now average $3.05 per gallon, the highest since 2014, despite the slowdown in travel after summer ended. (Myrtle Beach Sun News)
