Here is a sneak peek at today's weather:
Sunshine. High: 82 Low: 67.
Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Local hospitals have responded to President Biden's COVID-19 vaccine mandate for companies with more than 100 employees, healthcare workers, and federal workers. Conway Medical Center, Grand Strand Medical, Coastal Carolina University, Prisma Health, and OSHA all issued statements on the topic. Almost all stated that they will comply with all federal requirements, stating that they believe vaccinations are the best way forward. CCU is reviewing the plan and will make a determination. OSHA will issue an Emergency Temporary Standard that will be in place to implement the requirement. (WPDE)
- An Horry County judge has revoked bail for Chris Dontell, the former Horry County deputy coroner who was charged with murder. Dontell has been sent back to Long Detention Center. Dontell violated the terms of his bond, which stipulated that he was not to be in contact with his co-defendant, Meagan Marie Jackson. He had allegedly violated these terms on several occasions since his release on surety in May. The pair are both charged with murder and criminal conspiracy in the death of Gregory Rice, the father of Jackson's children. (WMBF)
- After a car was shot at with a person inside earlier this week, Myrtle Beach police are investigating. It is not clear whether the person inside the car was hurt. According to reports, several shell casings were found in a parking lot near Tiffany Lane, along with a car that was damaged with multiple bullet holes. Witnesses said a silver vehicle driven by a male was seen during the shooting. A suspect has not been found yet. (WBTW)
- North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue has announced that its explosives detection K-9, LoeLoe, died this week. The dog, who was certified to detect more than 15 explosive odors, came to the United States from the Netherlands, where she was born, in 2014. Her handler, Lt. Jacob Weeks was by her side when she died. The staff at Animal Hospital of North Myrtle Beach were thanked for their help with LoeLoe's passing. LoeLoe and Weeks' duties included working at events, responding to bomb threats, tracking suspects and missing persons, and even working with the Secret Service. RIP LoeLoe. (WMBF)
- Myrtle Beach area's bicycle and walking infrastructure is improving, but still lacking, according to a bicycling activist who lives in town. Walking on the beach is great, but once you get a little bit away from the beach, the lack of sidewalks and bike lanes is noticeable. Myrtle Beach is definitely a car-dependent city, with a walkability score of 43 out of 100, according to Walk Score, a company that keeps track of such things. The good news is that part of The Greenway does run through the Grand Strand. The Myrtle Beach Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Committee is studying the situation and working on improvements. (WBTW)

Thanks for following along and staying informed on this, the 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Be careful out there! A lot of memorial activities are going on in town, and there will be extra traffic; plus the continued rip currents at the beach. Stay safe, and I'll see y'all Sunday for another update!

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
