Morning, friends! It's me, Kathy Mandell, your host of the Myrtle Beach Daily. Here's everything you need to know about what's happening in town today, Thursday, September 8, 2022.
Let's have a look at Thursday's weather:

This great local business sponsors the Myrtle Beach Daily. We love what they do, and we think you will, too:
Thinking of a move to the Myrtle Beach area, but don't know where to start? What if we could connect you with a real estate agent that not only has over 100 5-star reviews on Zillow — but has lived through a relocation herself and understands the process well. Val Lyons at Realty One Group knows that details matter. If you're downsizing, relocating, or curious about home taxes in a new area, Val knows the market and understands communication is key. Message or call her at 774-259-8937.

Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- A federal judge in Florence County ruled in favor of the city Of North Myrtle Beach on Friday in the case between Cherry Grove Beach Gear and the city. The judge stated that the business did not make a clear showing that it is entitled to the remedy of a preliminary injunction. The company had sought to stop the city from enforcing an ordinance that prohibits the selling or leasing of goods on public beaches. The judge said Cherry Grove Beach Gear can continue to operate without violating the ordinance. The city's attorney says city officials are willing to refrain from prosecuting any of the citations already issued to the beach gear company, but if it continues to violate the ordinance it does so "at its own peril." - The Horry County Coroner's Office has ruled the deaths of a Carolina Forest teacher and her two children as a murder-suicide. Laura Moberly, an elementary school teacher, died by suicide. The deaths of her two children, Eric and Emily, were ruled as homicides. The family was found dead at their home on Centennial Circle last week. One funeral service for all three will be happening today. (WMBF)
- Horry County Fire Rescue's dive team reports that it located a vehicle and a boat submerged in the water while conducting a training session near Peachtree Landing in Socastee. The vehicles were towed from the water. Additional details are not available. (wpde.com)
- Employees at Captain Archie's, the restaurant located on the Intracoastal Waterway in North Myrtle Beach, said they heard "several loud pops" on Labor Day when a boat caught fire at the nearby boat ramp. Workers said they then went outside and saw a cloud of smoke moving over the bridge at the boat landing. A boat was fully engulfed in flames with intense heat. One person called 911 when they saw that a family was injured. (WMBF)
- Students in Horry County scored higher than those in other South Carolina counties on state standardized tests, said the SC Department of Education. Horry County Schools students scored higher in English and math on the SC READY test than students in other counties. Horry County students also scored higher on the SCPASS test that measures achievement in science and social studies. The two tests are administered annually to students in grades 3 through 8. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
