(Patch Media)

Hey, friends! It's Monday, June 20, 2022 and I'm back in your inbox with everything that's fit to print about what's happening in the Myrtle Beach area. Today is the official observance of the Juneteenth holiday, so banks, the post office, some government offices and some businesses are closed.

Let's start with Monday's weather:

Pleasant with plenty of sun. High: 84 Low: 68.

Here are the top three stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. The annual Juneteenth celebration in Myrtle Beach happened on Saturday, starting with the city's first-ever Juneteenth parade and finishing up at Charlie's Place for the rest of the afternoon and evening. Vendors included a children's book author, and the gun violence education group Moms Demand Action. The holiday commemorates the freedom of African-American slaves in 1865, and was declared a federal holiday last year by President Biden. (WBTW) (wpde.com)
  2. Another early heat wave is on the way. Temps should climb up into the uncomfortable range by mid-week, with heat index values around the 100 degree mark. Inland, the Pee Dee region and elsewhere may see more record-high temperatures. (WMBF)
  3. Two strikes and she's in. A Georgetown woman has been sentenced to life in prison without parole after she was convicted of armed robbery. Shannon Lane Bone, 40, was convicted by a jury and sentenced under the state's "two strikes" law. Bone had a prior conviction of attempted armed robbery from the early 2000s in Louisiana, for which she served seven years in prison. She also faces additional charges in Georgetown County including a pending murder charge. (wpde.com)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

This photo is amazing! Reader Satia Stevens sent this one over, and it's so crisp and clear, plus the person running looks almost like a silhouette. Very cool, Satia, thanks for the pic!

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
