Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. Special thanks to ABC15 for publishing this handy list of 9/11 Patriot Day remembrance ceremonies and events happening around the Grand Strand this weekend. From the Harley-Davidson 9/11 Memorial Ride, to the Pelicans' final game with 9/11 remembrance ceremonies, to a memorial vigil in North Myrtle Beach and the Murrells Inlet KofC tribute, the area is covered from north to south in ceremonies. (wpde.com) Not listed in ABC15's article is the Unity Memorial happening at Warbird Park on Sunday at 1 p.m. (WBTW) Weather could affect some outdoor events.
  2. The Myrtle Beach SkyWheel was lit up on Thursday night in honor of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II who died at Balmoral estate at age 96. Photos and video of the SkyWheel are in the link here: (wpde.com)
  3. Friday afternoon, Myrtle Beach International Airport issued a parking advisory because parking lots at the airport are at full capacity. Signage is in place directing travelers to overflow parking areas along the airport roadway. Since parking may take longer, travelers are being urged to arrive two to three hours before flight departures. (WBTW)
  4. Three people were arrested in a string of Surfside Beach vehicle break-ins. Charges ranged from breaking into autos, resisting arrest, prowling and giving false information to law enforcement. One of the three was charged with driving on a suspended license. Two of the three were arrested after having run from police. Surfside Beach Police Department is asking for home surveillance video from anyone who may have been affected or whose camera happened to capture video of the incidents. (wpde.com)
  5. Are you waiting for a vehicle registration in the mail? The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles says there may be some delays in getting those documents into drivers' hands. That's because there is a shortage of the type of paper used for DMV registrations! As soon as the paper, which has been on backorder for some time, is received, registrations will be printed and mailed. In the meantime, there's no need to request a duplicate. Law enforcement is able to look up registration status and they are aware of the issue. (WBTW)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

Sunset at Del Webb was submitted by reader Epp Lee. What a pretty photo of a one of the Grand Strand's most desirable neighborhoods. Thanks for the great pic, Epp!

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
