(Patch Media)

Hey, friends! It's me, Kathy Mandell, your host of the Myrtle Beach Daily. Let's get this Sunday, October 30, 2022 started off right with a quick dive into the most important things happening in town, including updates on...

  • A dodgeball game and a Medal of Valor for two local cancer patients.
  • Doc Antle's jury trial begins in Virginia.
  • The South Carolina Special Olympics returned to town this weekend.

First, let's check out today's weather:

Times of clouds and sun. High: 69 Low: 57.

Here are the top four stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. Students and staffers from St. James High School held a fun fundraiser to help one of their own. Teachers, students and staff participated in a dodgeball tournament earlier this week to raise money for Elaina Tubbs, a counselor dealing with breast cancer. The girls' volleyball coach, Katie Davis, organized the fundraiser. Everyone got involved and had a wonderful time rallying together for Tubbs. (WMBF)
  2. Horry County Police swore in Junior Officer Jonah Burton this week. The youngster has been living with childhood cancer and received the Medal of Valor for his courage in dealing with the disease. HCPD and Jonah have spent a lot of time together during their involvement with the Community Outreach Team and Motor Unit. After the ceremony, a trunk-or-treat and pizza party was held to celebrate. 3. 'Doc' Antle of Myrtle Beach Safari and Tiger King fame will be in court next week in Frederick County, Virginia to face several counts of animal cruelty and selling endangered species. Antle's trial will start Monday morning with jury selection. (WBTW)
  4. The South Carolina Special Olympics fall games returned after more than two years. This is the first time since 2019 that the games have been held. About 900 athletes participated in the games that took place at Coastal Carolina University campus and the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
