Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Horry County authorities announced late Saturday evening that missing Loris woman, Carrie Jackson, was found safe and that the case has been resolved. Specific details were not provided. (WMBF)
- Some 12 and 13-year-old students at St. James Middle School heard a first-hand account of the events of 9/11 from a former NYC police officer on Friday. The riveting talk was given by Officer Felix Cruz who said he is driven by never forgetting his colleagues who were lost on that day. He delivered a full account of his memories of that day to the youngsters who were born ten years after 9/11. The students were able to ask Cruz questions and they viewed artifacts from that day. - Wondering what's next for River Oaks Golf Club? It turns out there may be a number of options in the works. A community meeting on September 21 at the Carolina Forest Recreation Center will give River Oaks area residents an idea about the various redevelopment plans in place for the golf course neighborhood. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. (MyHorryNews.com)
- Down the road in Murrells Inlet, residents weighed in about possible new development activity in the Indigo Creek neighborhood. Horry County Council was to consider passing a second reading of a rezoning request along McDowell Shortcut Road, but neighbors expressed their concerns about traffic, flooding and more. The request has been deferred so that council members, contractors and residents can discuss the plans further. (wpde.com)
- Horry County Parks and Open Space Board voted in favor of a rail trail that will connect the Intracoastal Waterway to Myrtle Beach. Currently, there is nothing specific planned and the idea has been considered many times. The next step will be to see if it's even possible to build the suggested 34-mile trail. Rails to Trails is a nationwide project that converted unused railway lines into paved surfaces used for walking and cycling. (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
