Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Horry County Police have identified an elderly woman who was found wandering near Highways 348 and 777 in Loris on Sunday. The woman was located mid-morning, and did not appear to know her own identity. She used the name "Ann" but it was unclear if she was referring to herself, or someone else. She was wearing grey sweatpants, a white shirt, and white gloves. HCPD was going door-to-door in the area where she was found in an attempt to get the woman back to her home. Late Sunday evening, it was announced that she had been identified. No additional details were provided. (WMBF) (WPDE)
- To protest the Russia invasion of Ukraine, one North Myrtle Beach bar will not be serving Russian-made vodka. Buoys On The Boulevard announced the decision on social media, saying that it is a veteran-owned company and it understands the cost of independence. The Associated Press reports that many liquor providers around the country are doing the same. Two governors (Ohio and New Hampshire) signed executive orders directing their states' liquor outlets to stop purchasing and selling Russian-made alcohol. (WPDE)
- Ukrainians living in Myrtle Beach held a peaceful demonstration on Thursday, as previously reported, and held another on Saturday, against the Russian invasion. With family members in Ukraine, they are staying in touch as best they can by using FaceTime and other means to communicate. Their worry is palpable, yet they showed great strength of spirit as they carried Ukraine flags and had their faces painted yellow and blue to signify their solidarity. (WMBF)
- Saturday, March 5th, is the 25th annual Myrtle Beach Marathon. The event will start at 6:30 a.m. on Grissom Parkway. Expect delays from 4:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. that day along Kings Highway, Ocean Boulevard, Farrow Parkway, and Grissom Parkway. There are also several intersections best avoided, and it is suggested that drivers going north and south use Highway 17 Bypass. (WPDE)
- Surfside Beach road resurfacing is beginning today, and drivers are being asked to use caution and pay attention to signage about the milling and paving project. Several streets are scheduled to be resurfaced. The roads will be rough and uneven, and the town appreciates everyone's support and patience. A chart showing all the streets scheduled for resurfacing is shown in the link here. (WBTW)

- Jordan Suber @ Sundown Sports Pub (4:00 PM)
- Make A Difference Monday to benefit Winyah Rivers Alliance @ Tidal Creek Brewhouse (5:00 PM)
- Shaun Brown @ OD Lounge (8:00 PM)
From my notebook:
- Mardi Paws at Barefoot Landing on Saturday was a big success. My husband and I stopped by to check out the music, all the dogs, and the vendors. There was even a pair of adoptable dogs who looked remarkably like our "twins!" The weather was a little chilly compared to a few days ago, but that was better for the pups. The event benefitted North Myrtle Beach Humane Society. The shelter has many dogs and cats needing new homes, and they also need volunteers and foster families. Donations are also always welcome. Another event for NMBHS at Barefoot Landing is happening on March 18th. (wpde.com)
- Dogs and cats aren't the only family pets. Horry County firefighters saved a guinea pig from a house fire near Myrtle Beach on Saturday. The fire started on Sebring Lane around 4:00 p.m. and was quickly contained to one room. Fire crews rescued the guinea pig and brought it outdoors. There were no human injuries reported. (WBTW)
- Former President Donald J. Trump is scheduled to hold a rally on March 12 at Florence Regional Airport. The doors open at 2:00 p.m., and the "Save America Rally" is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. (WMBF)
- Don't feed the gators! The South Carolina House of Representatives has approved a bill increasing penalties for bothering or feeding alligators in the state. The bill passed unanimously and now heads for the Senate for approval. (WPDE)
- Surfside, Cherry Grove, Litchfield, and Huntington are just four of the Grand Strand beaches on Touropia's list of the 12 Best Beaches in South Carolina! Myrtle Beach itself took the number one spot on the list! (Touropia.com)
- Myrtle Beach and Huntington State Parks also lead the list of the Top 10 Things To Do With Kids In The Myrtle Beach Area (Beyond the Beach). But we already knew that! WonderWorks, Ripley's Aquarium, and EdVenture MB are some other fun non-beach ideas for families with kids. (VisitMyrtleBeach.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
