Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. A Myrtle Beach man was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct for climbing aboard the stranded Shayna Michelle shrimp boat that washed ashore near Damon's Restaurant during the hurricane. The boat is owned by Holden Beach Seafood based in Supply, NC. Its crew was attempting to return to Supply when Hurricane Ian hit and they were unable to complete the journey. Police had warned the public to stay away from the boat. The man who was arrested climbed onto the boat "while it was tossing in the surf" according to reports. (wpde.com) (WBTW) (WMBF) As of Sunday, the trawler was still on the beach. (WBTW)
  2. Our furry friends, the Murrells Inlet Goats, will not be returning to Goat Island for the rest of the season. The goats were evacuated on Thursday to the farm where they live off-season. Al Hitchcock, the owner of Drunken Jack's Restaurant also owns the goats and made the decision to keep the goats on the farm to allow for repairs to be done after the island got hit hard by Hurricane Ian. The goats' shelter on the small island, visible from the famous MarshWalk, was destroyed. The animals generally leave for their winter home in November. (WMBF) (wpde.com)
  3. Myrtle Beach residents who live within city limits will have new two-year parking decals starting today. The decals are available to residents who have personal automobiles or motorcycles that are parked within the city and who have paid property taxes on their vehicles. Anyone who has a current decal can renew online for the 2023-34 sticker. Residents who have never had a parking decal in the past will have to apply in person at the Pavilion Parking Garage, 914 North Kings Highway at the 9th Avenue North entrance. The stickers are valid until December of 2024. (WMBF) (WBTW) (wpde.com)
  4. Police reopened access roads and causeways to Pawleys Island homeowners and contractors on Sunday. The roads will be open to the general public starting at 8 a.m. today. Governor McMaster and SCDOT Secretary Christy Hall toured the seaside village on Saturday. The Army Corps of Engineers also surveyed the damage in Pawleys on Sunday. (WMBF) (wpde.com)
  5. Horry County PD is still asking people to stay away from Garden City until further notice. Crews are working to restore services and clear the roads that were heavily impacted by the hurricane. A section of North Waccamaw Drive was reopened on Sunday for local residents and work crews. (WBTW) (wpde.com)

Myrtle Beach pic of the day:

Do you remember a few weeks back when an old car was pulled out of the Intracoastal Waterway near Socastee? One of our readers, Diane Geberth, snapped this photo of the car after it was retrieved from Enterprise Landing. Great shot, Diane! Thank you for sharing!

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
