Catch up on everything happening near you with the Myrtle Beach Daily.

Get on up, Grand Strand! Let's get you started this Thursday with everything you need to know going on locally around Myrtle Beach. Today, I'll tell you about a man who drowned at an assisted living facility, a two car fatal crash in Surfside Beach, colleges and universities will be having mask mandates after a higher court gave them the go-ahead, a laundry room fire caused a local resort to be temporarily evacuated, and Horry County has decided to restrict rezoning along Highway 90.
Let's take a look at Thursday's weather: Mainly cloudy with a stray shower or thunderstorm possible. High: 88 Low: 76.
Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- A 52-year old man who recently moved his parents into an assisted living facility in Little River, was found drowned in the swimming pool of that facility. Security footage showed Christopher Dean Symonds, of Greenville, using the pool area at 3:20 a.m. The Horry County coroner's office listed his cause of death as asphyxiation due to drowning. (WMBF)
- A late night collision of two SUV's in Surfside Beach resulted in the death of one person. The driver of a Dodge Journey was turning left onto Deerfield Lane from Highway 17 Bypass when they failed to yield the right-of-way to a Mercedes SUV, and struck that vehicle. The driver of the Dodge, who was not wearing a seat belt was killed. (MyHorryNews.com)
- South Carolina higher education institutions, including Coastal Carolina University and Clemson University, have announced that they will require masks in school after a SC Supreme Court decision that permits them to have universal mask mandates. (WBTW)
- The Baywatch Resort in North Myrtle Beach was evacuated after fire broke out in a laundry room there. NMB Fire Rescue received reports of smoke coming from near the parking garage. Upon arriving, they determined that a commercial laundry dryer was on fire, and people staying at the resort were evacuated temporarily. Guests were allowed to return to the resort because the Resort Towers were not impacted by the fire. (wpde.com)
- After months of complaints and meetings, Horry County Council passed a resolution restricting rezoning along congested Highway 90 between Highways 501 and 22. The resolution is not an ordinance or a law. Instead, it is a way for county leaders to inform developers that zoning change requests will not be approved. Any projects that have already been approved are able to move forward with building. (WMBF)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
