Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- An automobile crashed into a building and struck a gas line near Market Common Sunday night, causing a massive fire. The crash happened on Walton Road near the Walmart Market around 9 p.m. Sunday night. MBPD, MBFD and Horry County Fire Rescue responded to the scene and had the fire under control in about two hours. Amazingly, the driver escaped with non-life-threatening injuries. The OrthoSC building sustained some damage. The driver was given a citation for failure to yield right-of-way on a left turn. (WMBF) (WBTW)
- Three people were arrested at the Sea Dip Motel in connection with an armed robbery at the nearby Greyhound Station in Myrtle Beach during the early hours of Monday morning. MBPD found two guns during the arrest. City cameras were used to successfully track a car used in the robbery. The names of the people arrested were not announced as of the time of this posting. - It's Mustang Week in Myrtle Beach, and organizers say this is the last time the event will be held on the Grand Strand. It is unclear whether the event will commence elsewhere, or whether this is the absolute final Mustang Week event altogether. Just in case, you might want to check out some Mustang Week events as the Ford enthusiasts take their last ride to Myrtle Beach. The group will attempt to break the Guiness Book of World Records for the largest Mustang parade on Thursday, July 28, at Broadway at the Beach. Giddyup! (MustangWeek.com)(wpde.com)
- Horry County Fire Rescue is having a grand opening celebration of its new fire station in Longs today. The ceremonies will happen at Station 13 located at 801 Highway 9 in Longs. Fire chief Joseph Tanner will speak starting at 10 a.m. The event will also be live-streamed on HCFR's Facebook page. A ceremonial "uncoupling of the hoses" will happen after Tanner speaks, and tours of the new station will be available. (WMBF)
- Three animal rescues on the South Strand are bursting at the seams and need help. The owners of Minnie & Bea's Vintage Market are hosting a fundraiser to benefit All4Paws Animal Rescue, Sav-R-Cats Adoption Center and Mollie's Angels Foundation. The event will happen July 29 and 30 at the Inlet Square Mall in Murrells Inlet. Pets welcome! A $40 donation will give you and your pet a photo session with professional photographers Ursula Shepherd and Viola Stone. Photos will be taken with "Buck's Truck" — a 1965 Chevy pickup truck. About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
