Here are the top five stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Murrells Inlet's MarshWalk kicks off Restaurant Week today. Folks can partake of three-course menus for $35. Eight restaurants along the popular waterfront are participating. The menus will be pre-set. Then, next weekend (February 26 and 27) it's the Taste of the MarshWalk festival with live music, food samples, and plenty of beautiful scenery and walkability to burn off those calories and get some fresh air. - Starting today on social media, the former Myrtle Beach Colored School will be featured in Black History Celebration Spirit Week. Each day this week, a different theme will be shared using the hashtag #HMBCSSpiritWeek22. The History Myrtle Beach Colored School and Education Center is asking people to share pictures and posts using the hashtag all week. The daily themes range from supporting Black-owned businesses, products or services, to posting photos about someone who inspires you, a soul food day, and a day to post photos of African prints and colors on Red, Black and Green Day. (WBTW)
- Even though churches were not closed in South Carolina during the early days of the pandemic when other businesses were closed, lawmakers want to make sure it never happens in the future. A Senate subcommittee approved a bill last week, unanimously, that assures churches can stay open and hold in-person services throughout the state, during a pandemic or other emergency. Churches would be considered an "essential business." The bill is advancing in the Senate. (WPDE)
- Friday was opening day at Springs Brooks Stadium, and the CCU Chanticleers did not disappoint, winning the first game 13-8 against Kent State. The first game was part of the Baseball at the Beach Tournament. On day two of the tournament, the Chants did it again, winning 8-4 over the Central Michigan Chippewas. (WMBF) (GoCCUSports.com)
- The weather is warming up! With lots of northerners here during Presidents Week, they're in for a real treat as the cool weather retreats for a few days. Monday is going to warm up into the 60s along the coast, and it's looking like we will reach the 70s Wednesday through Friday. Temps will go down again as the month closes out. After all, it is still February! (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
