(Patch Media)

Good day, neighbors! It's me again, Kathy Mandell, your host of the Myrtle Beach Daily. It's Friday, August 27, 2021 and here is what I want to tell you about today. The SCDOE is reinstating mask mandates on school buses, MYR is having a TSA Pre-Check event in September, two people were charged with the murder of a missing man whose body was recovered and identified using DNA evidence, and HCACC and the HC Police are looking for feedback about the newly-proposed animal ordinance.

Checking out Friday's weather: Cloudy. Late night thunderstorms possible. High: 86 Low: 76.

Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:

  1. The South Carolina Department of Education has announced that it is reinstating mask mandates on school buses, and that all school districts must be in compliance with the order starting on Monday, August 30. State-owned buses will have face covering supplies on board so drivers can offer masks to students who enter a bus without a face covering. (WMBF)
  2. Myrtle Beach Inernational Airport has announced enrollment for a TSA Pre-check expedited screening program. Travelers interested in applying for the pre-check can apply in-person at the airport September 8 through 10 at the Airport Business Center. It is recommended to pre-enroll online in advance. (WBTW)
  3. Two people have been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the discovery of a body back in May that was identified this week as Harry Barkley using DNA evidence. The victim had been missing since 2020, when his car was found dumped in the Sampit River. One of the two suspects was already in custody in Tennessee on an unrelated charge, and will be extradited back to South Carolina. (WPDE)
  4. The Horry County Animal Care Center and the HC Police are asking the community to weigh in on the proposed new animal ordinance for the County. A dedicated email inbox has been set up for feedback on the issue. The inbox will be active until September 3rd, and then will be deactivated. The proposed ordinance is available for viewing on the County's website. (Patch)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
