Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. In case you missed the Horry County election results, here are the highlights. Brenda Bethune was re-elected as mayor of Myrtle Beach. Over in North Myrtle Beach, Marilyn Hatley was also re-elected as mayor. Voters in Surfside Beach elected three new people to the town council: William Kinken, LaVerne Kreklau and Chris Stamey. Two candidates in Conway will spar in a run-off on November 16th. (WBTW) (MyHorryNews.com)
  2. On the South Strand, the city of Georgetown has elected the first female and first Republican mayor in the city's history. City Councilwoman Carol Jayroe defeated the incumbent Democrat in a 53% to 43% vote. Also in Georgetown, three city council seats were filled by two Republicans, and an Independent. (WMBF)
  3. Conway Police are looking for two armed and dangerous suspects in a stolen 2015 Subaru with Massachusetts license plates. The suspects allegedly sexually assaulted a woman , and then stole her car. Anyone with info should call police at (843) 428-1790. The vehicle is a gray 2015 Subaru Legacy with MA license tag 983DX4. (WBTW)
  4. Horry County police seized guns, drugs, and body armor at a Socastee residence, and arrested a woman on multiple charges including drug trafficking, possession of a stolen firearm, and possession of heroin with intent to distribute. Twelve guns, including two that were stolen, as well as a variety of drugs, body armor, and over $1700 cash were seized in the case. The woman had been released on bond for previous drug charges at the time. She is now in custody at Long Detention Center. (WMBF)
  5. Get ready for holiday visitors! Myrtle Beach was voted number 12 by Travel & Leisure Magazine in its "25 Festive Christmas Towns to Visit for the Holidays." The main attraction mentioned is, of course, the Night of a Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens, but the Festival of Trees at Ripley's Aquarium was also listed as a highlight of any yuletide visit to the Grand Strand. About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
