Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:

  1. A drug search and arrest on Thursday led authorities to charge a man with armed robbery, kidnapping, first-degree burglary, possession of a weapon, and several drug charges connected to a prostitution incident that happened in November. Approximately 32 grams of meth and two guns were found during a search by Myrtle Beach police. The man was also one of two people arrested in 2019 for holding someone hostage and shooting them with a BB gun. (WBTW)
  2. The nurse who was alleged to have been working at Conway Medical Center with a suspended license, was charged with representing herself as a registered nurse, defrauding drug and alcohol screening tests necessary for her employment, and possession of narcotics and other substances. It is alleged that the woman was giving drugs to patients in the hospital despite the fact that her license was suspended. She was arrested Wednesday and released on a $33,000 bond. The nurse's license was suspended in 2019, re-instated in 2020, and suspended again in 2021 for undisclosed reasons. (wpde.com)
  3. Downtown Myrtle Beach is getting to be pretty exciting as everyone waits for the new Arts and Innovation District to be completed this year. The work on 9th Avenue North is really taking shape now. The city's goal is to have all the buildings in the new district leased by the end of the year, and they're confident that is a realistic target. (WMBF)
  4. At Southpaw's Boxing Acacemy in Surfside, owner Todd Poulton is using the sport to 'knock out' mental illness. Poulton began boxing to overcome OCD, and the sport became a passion for him. So much so that he opened his own academy to help kids with ADHD, ADD, OCD and other behavioral challenges have an outlet. So far, Poulton has helped 450 kids! (WBTW)

Alrighty, you're all good for Sunday, folks! See you all Monday morning for another update!

Kathy Mandell

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
