Greetings, Grand Strand! Here's a five-minute guide to everything worth knowing around Myrtle Beach today.

Get on up, Myrtle Beach! Here's everything you need to know to get this Wednesday started off right. Today, I'll tell you about Myrtle Beach being ranked number one, and South Carolina being number seven — in what? You'll have to read ahead to find out. In other stories, Horry County Schools will no longer require masks, a unique robbery happened at a local CVS, and what's with all the abandoned boats around here?
But first, let's take a peek at Wednesday's weather: Humid and partly cloudy throughout the day. High: 88 Low: 75.
Here are the top stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- Myrtle Beach is number one. According to U.S. News & World Report, the Grand Strand is numero uno on its list of the fastest-growing places in the United States. The other nine locales in the report's top ten list were all in Florida. In addition, the same publication ranked Myrtle Beach the second-best place to live in South Carolina. (WMBF)
- Don't get too excited, because the Palmetto State is close to the top of the list on something else as well... grocery prices. According to a recent study conducted by Move.org, grocery prices here in SC are the seventh-most expensive in the country. Food prices country-wide have gone up about 2.2 percent in the past year. (WPDE)
- Horry County Schools has announced that face mask requirements have been lifted for the 2021-22 academic year. Masks will no longer be required on buses, or on any campus buildings. SCDOE is still recommending masks, but they are not required. A local doctor interviewed for this story has stated that some of his fully-vaccinated patients have still tested positive for COVID-19, and he recommends mask wearing for his own family, as well as his patients. (WMBF)
- An 18-year-old woman was arrested for allegedly threatening violence against CVS Pharmacy workers in Surfside Beach. The woman demanded they give her all the oxycodone they had on hand. The employees complied, but then followed her to the parking lot. The woman dropped some of the bottles, and her ID, and that's how cops were able to find her and charge her with strong-armed robbery and theft of prescription drugs. (WBTW)
- Horry County fishing charters have noticed an uptick in abandoned boats in local waters. Some say dockage and fuel prices may be partially to blame, as boat owners seem to be running their boats off into marshy areas and walking away rather than pay the expenses relating to boat ownership. Those in the know advise to make sure you can afford a boat and all the related expenses before you buy. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
