The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Myrtle Beach.

Morning, people of the Grand Strand! It's me again, Kathy Mandell, your host of the Myrtle Beach Daily. Today is Thursday, March 10, 2022, and here's what you need to know before you start your day!
The summer weather is gone for a little while. Here's Thursday's forecast:

Here are the top five stories today in Myrtle Beach:
- All aboard! A former railroad line could become a Grand Strand tourist attraction. The Horry County Infrastructure and Regulation committee talked about the idea at this week's meeting. The plan would involve a five-mile train ride that would last about 45 minutes, round-trip. Preserving the Atlantic Coastline Railroad tracks and using them as a heritage railroad sounds to leaders like a great family-friendly option for visitors and locals alike. The new railway would have special events on various holidays. The tracks are parallel to Highway 501 in between the ICW Bridge and Myrtle Beach Train Depot. (WBTW)
- Myrtle Beach City Council voted to approve a new ordinance that may lead to more golf carts and fewer mopeds on Myrtle Beach's boulevards this summer. Franchise agreements for a dozen or so golf cart and moped rental companies were approved during council's meeting on Tuesday. Each company needs to purchase a decal at $10 apiece for every cart or moped approved for renting. (Myhorrynews)
- It's going to get cold again this weekend, and there is the probability of a frost. If the great weather the last several days got you thinking about getting started on gardening, experts suggest you wait until after the final freeze. The folks over at Lynn's Berries say you should consider frost protection if you did plant anything. Cover your plants overnight. Don't use plastic, because that will promote fungus growth. Find an old blanket or bed sheet, instead. You don't need to buy anything specific for gardening, just be sure the plants are safely covered. (WPDE)
- A Myrtle Beach tourist had a great vacation, and says their "nest egg is back" after a scratcher won them a cool $75,000. The visitor purchased the scratch-off ticket while shopping at Food Lion on Highway 707. The grocery store earned a $750 commission. (WMBF)
- Tidelands Waccamaw Community hospital in Murrells Inlet has earned a 'High Performing' rating from U.S. News & World Report for 2021-2022. The rating is the highest that the digital media company awards to medical establishments. The hospital's COPD, kidney failure, and knee replacement care ratings were what pushed it into the "impressive" category. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
