Here are the top four stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- Court records obtained by local news media show that the elementary school teacher who was found dead with her two children in a Carolina Forest home was in the middle of a custody dispute with her estranged husband. Both parents attended a temporary hearing on August 30 — the day before the family was found dead of gunshot wounds. According to police reports one of the three who died is the person who did the shooting. The report is redacted and does not reveal specifics of the shooting or the court case details. (WBTW)
- A Myrtle Beach man has been charged with unlawful neglect of a child and "willfully or knowingly allowing a person under 16 to unlawfully operate a vessel" after his 11-year-old son died in a jet ski accident on July 17 on the Intracoastal Waterway. Arrest warrants show that Raymond Jay Hillman, 50, was under the influence of alcohol and allowed his son to operate the vessel which crashed into a tree on shore while traveling at a high speed. Hillman and his son were both taken to the hospital where Hillman underwent emergency surgery and his son was pronounced dead. Hillman was recently released on bond from Long Detention Center. - Changes to the intersection of Highway 501 and Cannon Road in Myrtle Beach are being worked on by the SC Department of Transportation after it was reported that more than 80 crashes have happened at the intersection during a four-year period. The new plan will be similar to the changes that were made on Business 17 in Surfside Beach, sometimes known as a "Super Street." The DOT is accepting input from the public. (wpde.com)
- Horry County Planning Commission has approved plans to build three new fire stations. The Wampee and Nixonville stations on Highway 90 will merge and open at a new location on Red Bluff Road near the intersection of Highways 90 and 22. Station 14 will be between Highway 905 and Shell Road. The Forestbrook fire station will be near Fantasy Harbour Boulevard. The start date for construction was not announced. The new stations are part of the county's ten-year plan to accommodate the growth spurt the Grand Strand area is experiencing. (WBTW)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
