Here are the top stories in Myrtle Beach today:
- On Tuesday, Myrtle Beach City Council voted unanimously to approve funding for Interstate-73. The resolution commits the city to give $4.2 annually over a 30 year span as Myrtle Beach's contribution to the project. The possibility of extending I-73 into the Grand Strand area has been in play for about two decades. Funds from the COVID-19 federal stimulus as well as President Biden's Infrastructure Bill helped move the decision forward. North Myrtle Beach committed $1.7 million annually to the project last week, also in a unanimous decision. (WBTW)
- After a postponement of Atlantic Beach's town council meeting, the group met on Monday night and approved the Atlantic Beach Bikefest for 2022. The event was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic. Bikefest will start on Friday, May 27, 2022 and go through Monday, May 30th (Memorial Day). The 2019 event attracted about 20,000 visitors to the Grand Strand. (WMBF)
- Santee Cooper electric company is donating seven electric vehicle chargers to businesses in Horry County. Charging stations will be given to Coastal Carolina University, the City of Conway, Horry County Memorial Library, and Horry-Georgetown Technical College. Santee Cooper is also offering a $500 rebate to residential customers who obtain level 2 electric vehicle chargers through the company's program, EmpowerAuto. (WBTW)
- There were two school bus crashes in Horry County within an hour of each other early Tuesday morning. Thirty-five students were on the first bus near River Oaks Drive when a person driving a Nissan Rogue swerved to avoid another Nissan and hit the bus. The driver of the Rogue was charged with driving too fast for the conditions. Later on, at Highway 90 and East Cox Ferry Road a bus without students aboard was in a wreck, but there were no details available at the time of this posting. One person was injured in that crash. - A Georgia woman has been missing for almost a year, and her family is targeting their search on the Grand Strand area. Myrtle Beach police have asked the public to be on the lookout for Sonie Toe who went missing last year on New Year's Eve. Toe is 25 years old, and her disappearance is out of character, according to her father who recently spent five days in Myrtle Beach looking for her based on a tip he received on November 24th. - On December 18th, it will be eight years since Heather Elvis disappeared mysteriously from Peachtree Boat Landing in Myrtle Beach. A prayer vigil for the woman, whose body has never been found, is being held at the landing at 5:00 p.m. Saturday. (WMBF)

- The owner of Coral Sands Motel has filed an appeal to prevent the building from being demolished. The city ordered that the building be demolished in November when it was shut down after a police investigation revealed drug activity and prostitution at the property. (wpde.com)

About me: The best decision I ever made was relocating to the Myrtle Beach area from New England a few years ago, with my three dogs and three cats. I enjoy dogs, cats, road trips, photography, writing, vegetarian food, live music, bicycling and above all my daily walks on the beaches in and around the Grand Strand.
